Getting Started with BIMI
Your BIMI Implementation Guide
BIMI puts your brand logo next to every email you send. This hub covers every requirement: certificate types, logo format, DNS setup, and what to expect from the process.
The short answer
To deploy BIMI you need five things: DMARC at enforcement (p=quarantine or p=reject), an SVG Tiny PS format logo, a VMC or CMC certificate from a trusted CA, a stable public HTTPS URL to host both files, and a BIMI DNS TXT record at _bimi.yourdomain.com. Most organizations take 3–10 weeks from start to live display — the majority of that time is getting DMARC to enforcement.

I'm just learning what BIMI is
Start by understanding the difference between BIMI and a VMC certificate — two terms that are often confused.
BIMI vs VMC Certificate
I need to check my DMARC status
DMARC enforcement is required but not sufficient — four other requirements also apply.
Why DMARC alone isn't enough
I don't have a registered trademark
A VMC requires a registered trademark. Without one, a Common Mark Certificate (CMC) may be the right path.
CMC eligibility
I'm ready to apply — what's the timeline?
VMC issuance typically takes 5–15 business days after a complete application.

Quick Answers
What is BIMI?
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is an email standard that displays your verified brand logo in supported email clients. It requires DMARC enforcement, a verified certificate (VMC or CMC), and a DNS record.
VMC vs CMC — which do I need?
A VMC requires a registered trademark. A CMC does not. Both enable BIMI logo display in Gmail. If you have an active registered trademark, pursue a VMC. If not, check CMC eligibility.
What is SVG Tiny PS?
The restricted SVG profile required for BIMI logos. It prohibits scripts, animations, external references, and embedded raster images. A standard web SVG will not pass CA validation without conversion.
Which email providers support BIMI?
Gmail and Apple Mail are the primary supported providers. Microsoft 365 / Outlook does not currently support BIMI logo display.
How long does BIMI take to set up?
DMARC to enforcement: 2–8 weeks. VMC issuance: 5–15 business days. DNS propagation: up to 48 hours. Total: 3–10 weeks from scratch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need before I can apply for BIMI?
Before applying for a VMC or CMC, you need: DMARC at enforcement (p=quarantine or p=reject), an SVG Tiny PS formatted logo, a registered trademark matching the logo (for VMC), and publicly accessible HTTPS hosting for both the logo and certificate files. See
Why DMARC Alone Isn’t Enough for BIMI.
What is the difference between a VMC and a CMC?
A VMC (Verified Mark Certificate) requires a registered trademark and is issued by a certified CA. It is supported by Gmail, Yahoo, and other major providers. A CMC (Common Mark Certificate) does not require a trademark but has more limited provider support. See

How long does BIMI take to implement from start to finish?
The total timeline depends primarily on VMC issuance time (5–15 business days after application) and whether DMARC enforcement is already in place. Organizations with DMARC enforcement and a ready logo can complete deployment in 2–4 weeks. DMARC rollout adds 3–6 months if not already in place. See
